Grain
Destoner
The
grain destoner can remove stone
and other unwanted particles from
rice, maize, sorghum and guinea
corn in dry form on a continuous
basis and in one unit operation.
Cabinet
Dryer
This
is a dryer in which the heat from
the drying medium (hot air) to
the food product is transferred
by convection.
The convection current
passes over the product and not
through the product.
It is suitable for dehydration
of fruit, vegetables, etc.
The capacity is 500kg per
batch.
Instant
Pounded Yam Flour
a.
Slicer:
This cuts the yam into
thin regular slices. It is made
up of a single rotary blade. It
is vertically positioned and driven
by an electrical motor via a vee-belt
pulley arrangement.
Slices are collected through
an opening, into a bath of water,
prevents discolouration.
Capacity is one tonne per
hour.

Parboiler:
This is used to parboil
yam.
Water is introduced into
the parboiler tank and then headed
up by means of a gas burner.
Other heat sources could
be adapted, ranging from electric
heater, kerosene stove to firewood
or perforated trays stacked in
a cabinet.
At boiling point, the tray
cabinet is gradually lowered into
the parboiler tank, which has
generated steam to cook the yam
to specification.
A thermometer and a pressure
gauge are attached to regulate
the condition inside the parboiler.

Hammer Mill: this is used
to mill dried yam chips.
It is a micro-unit sieve
and cyclone that is capable of
producing good flour from the
chips. The capacity is one tonne
per hour.
Pasteurizer
The
pasteurizer is made of carefully
selected stainless steel metals
and insulation materials of appropriate
grade and incorporated with systems
for monitoring temperature. The
basement is made to allow for
heating by either gas or solid
fuel i.e. charcoal or wood and
lined with fibre glass or bricks
or clay as the case may be.
The capacities are always
synchronized with the mixer, for
example 48 bottles capacity pasteurizer
with 50-litre mixer.
Plantain
Slicer
The
plantain slicer is ideal for the
local producer.
The machine is rotary driven
and produces round chips. The
operator can vary the thickness
of the sliced chips. The operator’s
hands are well protected from
injury and the machine has an
output of 60kg/hr.
Chipping
Machine
This
is a simple machine, which consists
of a driven disc with radial chipping
slots fitted with cutting blades.
The machine cuts the peeled cassava
tubers transversely between 3mm
and 5mm thickness is size.
The capacity is 1 tonne
per hour.
Pelletizer
This
produces cassava pellets from
chips. The machine coverts the
powder from the chips into hardened,
moulded cylindrical shapes of
about 2-3cm long and 0.4 – 0.8
cm in diameter which are uniform
in appearance and texture. The
capacity is 1 tonne per hour.
Smoked
Fish Dryer
The
design of the dryer ensures that
the fish come out with a very
low moisture content and long
shelf life.
The fish-smoking kiln is
operated by first loading charcoal
into the heat chamber, preheating
for some minutes, then loading
the salted pieces of fish onto
the trays in its central chamber.
The kiln is closed for some time
to allow smoking to take place.
The length of smoking depends
on the type and size of fish.
The capacity is 100kg per
barge.
